C.O.L. Translations offers interpreting services in English, Portuguese and Spanish. Consecutive, whispered and simultaneous interpreting services are offered.
Consecutive Interpreting
In consecutive interpreting the interpreter takes notes about what the speaker said and subsequently communicates verbally what was said. The speaker must pause intermittently to give time for what they have said to be translated before continuing. This type of interpreting is used in business meetings, court hearings, social gatherings and events where there are a limited number of participants and only one foreign language to be translated.
Whispered Interpreting
In whispered interpreting the interpreter verbally translates what the speaker is saying in near real-time to the person needing the translation. The interpreter will sit or stand next to that person so that the translation does not have any impact on the other members of the group. If that person wishes to interact then the interpreter will speak on behalf of that person. This type of interpreting is used in business meetings, court hearings, social gatherings and events where there are a limited number of participants and only one foreign language to be translated.
Simultaneous Interpreting
In simultaneous interpreting the interpreter verbally translates what the speaker is saying in near real-time through the use of a microphone to more than one participant who can listen to the translation using headphones. This type of interpreting is used in conferences and presentations where there are a large number of participants. Where simultaneous interpreting is used an interpreter must only work for 30 minutes before taking a break as the level of concentration is so intense. For this reason a minimum of two interpreters are required for each language. The client is responsible for providing equipment for simultaneous interpreting.
A list of the fees for interpreting can be found on the “Prices” page.
